“We absorb something into our identity when we have the feeling it will bolster us” “offer the logic of language and story”
“When we work together with someone, our stories merge”
“Active belief”
We are rational creatures, and we run on stories.
Stories of business being about crooked thieves are false. Use capitalism the right way make a new story. Business is part of us from before capitalism. opinion
We desperately need this in our times to replace outdone Gods.
A story needs an obstacle and a goal like in story of separation.
Humans are uniquely social animals who help each other out in our nature, even unprompted toddlers.
Our story world is so important we sometimes choose it over out own lives, this comes from our groups being so big today that we lose sense of how we matter. Feeling well connected and having status literally makes you more healthy.
We align to the world view of the one we interact with often, then remember this distorted view without realizing if we align with them.
Multiple identities: parent, buddhist, etc, when applied it enhances certain characteristics of our personality. Ppl adapt their belief to the party’s rather than the opposite, and don’t realize. We treat the group as ourselves. Sharing emotions together enhances this.
idea wake architects up to their different vision of beauty than the general populace (plz stop making grey blocks, preference for which rises with the studies)
-> to motivate others don’t use money, use identity insight
Amazing stories… Treat ppl like human beings at work centers (they will feel it if you try to squish them like a lemon), same for your customers, helping them is so important.
And on the other side, humans are not just greedy goblins. We care most about being fairly and honestly recognized by our company (status), not about money, although bonuses can motivate too. The most significant element for performance is recognition so make sure it’s there.
For make no mistakes, status and hierarchies are a thing and we look for signals of those, even subconsciously. We need to feel like we have agency.
Competition is comparison is recognition and status.
Ppl wanna be the hero of their story. Small group, big impact, recognition potentially
This is the issue with extreme capitalism and with communism.
We also like to be seen as altruistic and good by others, so give space for that. A brand needs to have a north star but they can lie.
So many things fit into story. The watch you have, phone, clothes… Just to tell a story of status. We make up our own story lying about the truth even if it’s different from why we do it. An ad convinced you doesn’t sound good.
Stories, for instance Harry Potter, are about the underdog rising up. Powerful obstacles, but good heart, and succeed eventually, they won’t give up. Most ppl will identify with this, so it’s well used. But this goes further, our memories get updated to fit and we mostly remember good grades. Whatever is seen as good locally, ppl will think they have it and not realize. We enhance our qualities but underestimate our status.
You can’t claim status or ppl will put you down (tyranny).
We follow older people like us to gain status as they did. Think what the cavemen did.
But what we believe about our abilities does affect them lucifer
The status of leaders depends on how they themselves give status to the team, how successful they are, how fairly they give the resources out. But it matters what behavior they reward.
And people will defend their group identity. Furthermore, having an even enemy will be good for motivation.

How status game interacts with social media, enlightening description quote
They describe how every successful feature is a status game, how we disclose our life for it.
“How do we consume as much of your time and attention as possible?” - Sean Parker, former facebook president. Links back to La civilisation du poisson rouge
The author also mentions gossip as an important part of real life status which works effectively to prevent leaders from being too selfish.
The story has to be specific in order to really work. Not just general empowerement bullshit.
Strong visual symbol.
Good example of storytelling, with saying who it’s not for: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tjgtLSHhTPg
Visual symbol to unite people.
A story is about how it makes us feel, we are feeling machines that think to figure it out. For instance: movies.
Also sell ppl identity. Make them feel like protagonists, underdogs we help out with our Light Figure.
Ads: for ppl to remember them they need to be emotional.
Use surprise/curiosity to ready others for your story then connect to existing elements in the person’s reality, and give causality.
Difficulty (status, connection, survival) for main character, something to overcome, there comes light figure to help learn something and grow. If done properly, people will remember this.
Simplicity in words is high status. As little words as necessary, clear.
And the easiest for ppl to identify with are stories of a few individuals, not statistics.
Simple message, not too much stuff.
Stories however need details to let ppl imagine that world fully… And stories as they get passed along to people become simpler, clearer. They become a clear deal, like the boy who cried wolf. Do that or this and you will have status or survival or connection. This is how old theories used to spread. Social contracts. Religions. Philosophies.
You need one clear phrase for you and your audiance and your team. An atomic phrase, that explodes with meaning in one’s head. A A More Beautiful Question
