A friend, and our relationship to others in art.
I met Mr Robot again, he just came back from Japan himself, and shared stories.
He says there’s a third way, besides healing and chaos. He told me how, and it felt like he was reading my book back to me, the one I wrote 5 years ago.
I invited him to an event made by students, around our relation to others.
The venue is a garden, with the exposition upstairs.
The first thing you see upon entering is intimate writing, a dress-tablecloth, and pictures that capture a specific mood in parties.
The party images need no description. There’s also pictures of people alone at a train station platform.
The notion brought is this: we can feel alone, even if we are with others, for many reasons.
Maybe we’re in our mind, in our own world. We may be here, but not really there. We may also feel different, misunderstood, separate from others, alone, in this way.
This may push us to write, to do art.
Our relation to others reveals much about ourselves.
The second part was a conference.
Alterum corpus, the book they made, is a collective work, 4 of the 6 artists were present. AI was used for a “neutral” chapter.
The artists presented themselves.
“I do collage to tell new stories” says the first. I’d like to hear more from her, her collages are like none I’ve seen before. She reminds me of Jung.
“I do drawing and portraits, I don’t want to know why I’m doing the art this way, it constructs itself,” the artwork shown gives a special vibe. It can be experimental, inspired from real life events.
“I develop my relation to myself through others.” The people in her pictures stand out. For her, photography is a medium to get to know others better. Somehow if you just look at the photos, you get a glimpse of the stories of the families.
“I show different aspects of myself in my art, they’re small facets of myself from something I lived.” She plays the role of others. Of are these versions of herself?
They had received some questions to prepare in advance.
If you could be any place/object/musique/matter, what would you be?
What is the role of your art in your relation to the world?
How is the relation to others felt in your art?
They talked of unconscious, adn, feeling different, intimity, performing, other, children, heart, families, all human, story.
So I realized…
The unconscious seems to be the artist, along with something deep down in us. We’re just the vessel of art, following around, step by step, discovering what the next part of our art is supposed to be. Is it even our art? Aren’t we like AI in a way, giving out something that’s based on our whole life of experience and whatever is in our subconscious?
Art is something we like to do.
In a way, art is our past, expressing itself in the present, hoping to change the future.
The third part is music, and I have fun talking. My mind was fully awakened by this trail of thought. Of course, I bought the book. Of course, I danced. Of course, I made friends.

Most people shouldn’t speak too much, lest we’ll realize that in truth they know or say little. But for some… For some it just draws a clearer picture the more they write or talk. I hope that’s my case. I understand with ease, but to explain I need to quiet the storm instead of riding it.
So much to say, even from little, as always.
