AI makes it easy to modify anything to your preferences, and fix bugs with little cost to your time, but it does need to be able to see and edit the code.
There is however an issue in that this is also making it easy to “collaborate” to open source projects with AI, bringing down the treshold of expertise and attention needed to open a PR. This can lead to more bugs being reported and some good ideas being suggested, but it mostly leads to noise.
Episode 501 of the podcast by Lex Fridman has the Omarchy lead talking about this, he says we just need to think about it differently.
We can easily refuse AI PRs if they’re not good. Hell we can use AI to do that and only look at the good stuff.
Rust is great for AI coding I do believe.
Interesting thing he says: AI can be better than programmers at doing stuff, because they lack product management skills.
don’t try to set everything upfront. You don’t know what a program should do until you play with it. It is in the process of using software that you discover what you want. Differential evaluation is what humans are good at. Taste.
I love what he says about not trying to predict the future and focusing on what you can do now. There were big changes in the past for jobs. Accept what you can’t control.
Amazing what HDD says about pushing the limits of humanity, I wonder how to apply that to the AI system.
Interesting perspective to say how not having kids changes our view of the future and focus in it… In not such a great way.
