Before proposing a new system I’ll point out what’s wrong with the current one, which hasn’t changed much, despite the world evolving around it.
Firstly, for most education I know, a lot of importance is put on remembering - but we’re not taught how to do it well.
Secondly, some subjects like maths or sciences are covered, but so long as students have to question the point of it they’re not ready to learn as much.
Thirdly, there’s a focus on being able to have answers in the exams and whatnot, by oneself, and not to question things and cooperate with others. Instead, a lot of time is often spent sitting, at home or at school.
Finally, there are a lot of things that are expected to be taught by the parents, but who knows what they’re teaching!
In this context it’s hard to keep the student’s attention and make them want to learn and participate in today’s society, especially if you contrast this outdated system with social phones’ addictiveness.
If we look at the Montessori model by contrast, it has more freedom for young children, letting them choose more and helping them become fully autonomous individuals. The issue is it’s intended for kindergarden but there are things to be taught later on, too.
